I was given an assignment to take twenty pictures of a single object and then choose three I thought were best. I chose the following:
Of the entire staircase I choose a "normal" exposure. This particular staircase is rather dark, but I darkened it a bit myself by increasing shutter speed. This way the staircase is not too light, but is also not too dark. You can still see quite a bit of detail.
Interested in a brighter staircase, I choose a slower shutter speed to let more light in. More detail is seen in the stairs, but not quite in the wall, giving a dream-like effect.
Doom, doom, doom. . . This version of the staircase gives a gloomy, looming feeling. By increasing the shutter speed quite a bit, I allowed this photo to be born. The reflections are evident, giving a source of light when there appears to be none.
